Someone said (I think it was Einstein, I'm not really sure) that darkness is the absence of light. So, therefore, the word 'darkness' would not exist if not for the existence of 'light' or just the plain idea of light.
It's pretty much the same with problems, no matter how devastating - such as breast cancer, there is always hope that one would get through that. Problems would not exist if the state of enjoyment, laughter, and the like did not exist. Nobody would call those things "problems" but just common things. Therefore there is hope - always and forever - as much as these things keep existing.
